2 years ago and is now the CEO of IBDesign.
Why did you decide to apply for an apprenticeship?
After finishing college I was unsure on the career path I wanted to take and with my passion being art and design I didn’t want to commit to a degree that didn’t guarantee me work.
What advice would you give to someone considering taking on an apprenticeship?
There are probably 3 main tips I would give you:
- Consider all the options available to you.
Taking on an apprenticeship can be an incredible opportunity so you need to make sure that both the role and the company you’re going into work with is right for you. - Don’t be put off by the wage.
I remember when I accepted my apprenticeship, I was a senior sales assistant at a local retail store on good money (for my age). The apprenticeship I took was almost half my hourly salary however, I knew that the progression in my previous role was minimal and a small hit would mean my salary expectations in the future could be huge. - Look at it as more than just a job.
An apprenticeship is a huge opportunity to kick start your career so don’t just treat it as a 9-5 job, soak up all the knowledge and don’t forget to enjoy yourself.
Tell me about your job role and what you loved the most?
My apprenticeship was for a small web design agency and along with 3 other apprentices I was one of the first full-time members of staff. I loved the ability to adapt with the company and to watch and help it grow. During my first year, I was able to learn the key elements of website design and build on my graphic design skills. I was taken on after the apprenticeship and I liaised with the managing director on sales progression and a new business venture.
What did you gain from doing an apprenticeship?
Wow, what a question. I learnt incredible skills both in my industry of work but also in business.
What opportunities did doing an apprenticeship give you?
Relevant, real-world experiences.

I can do it in just 2 words: Life changing
